The Latest from BCHC
In collaboration with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the coalition participated in Operation Night Owl to conduct a Medical Response and Surge Exercise (MRSE). This comprehensive full-scale drill simulated a Level 4 Mass Casualty Incident at the airport, involving hundreds of live victims, 10 acute care hospitals, EMS partners, and various local and federal response teams.
Health and Medical partners played vital roles in managing patient distribution, communication, and hospital surge operations. The exercise also aimed to test essential coalition capabilities, such as coordination, situational awareness, medical surge capacity, resource sharing, and communication between pre-hospital providers and healthcare facilities. By participating in the planning, organization, and coordination of the drill, the coalition evaluated the healthcare system’s capacity to handle a large-scale incident and enhanced preparedness throughout Broward County.
